Construction is completed and all phased of Kiwanis Park are now in operation.  Recent years have seen several new projects at Kiwanis including a new skatepark, basketball courts, restroom, playground, parking, picnic shelter, asphalt walkways, concessions/restroom building, and 3 new lighted softball fields.

The almost $3.46 million dollar project was completed with the help of several parties including: City of Yakima, WA State

  • Yakima School District:  $500,000
  • Downtown Rotary – playground:  $200,000 [includes value of volunteer hours]
  • Southwest Rotary – basketball court:  $30,000 [estimate due to volunteer labor and donated materials]
  • Apple Valley Kiwanis – skate park & park benches:  $50,000
  • Tony Hawk Foundation – skate park:  $25,000
  • Sunrise Rotary – picnic shelter:  $25,000 [estimate due to volunteer labor and donated materials]
  • State of Washington – Recreation & Conservation Office [RCO] grant:  $500,000
  • Sun Yakima, LLC – land purchase:  $360,000
  • Sun Yakima, LLC – park development & concession stand/restroom:  $300,000
  • City of Yakima – land purchase:  $200,000
  • City of Yakima – skate park:  $250,000
  • City of Yakima – park development:  $1,020,000

Most weekends during the summer months will have baseball or softball tournaments on the fields  which attract thousands of visitors to Yakima.   The park is still open to any and all to enjoy the skatepark, basketball court, playground or other facilities.
